Laser vein/vascular treatment
What vascular lesions or conditions do we treat?
Spider veins ~ Rosacea ~ Cherry angiomas
Telangiectasias are small dilated blood vessels seen near the surface of the skin. The condition is one of the most common vascular lesions seen by physicians, even among healthy people. Leg vein pathology (which is often referred to as spider veins) affects up to 80 million adults in the United States alone. Women tend to develop leg vein pathology 3 to 4 times as often as men. Facial veins are also common and are often associated with a common skin disorder called rosacea. Rosacea consists of visible blood vessels, redness, and acne-like lesions on the face. Cherry angiomas are another commonly seen condition and are a collection of blood vessels. They appear as little red bumps and are often found on the torso but can develop anywhere on the body.
Telangiectasia is generally progressive, and these veins can become larger and increase in number over time. Treatment of early stage disease may prevent progression and cause regression of the underlying disease process. Although the condition is usually harmless, it can be associated with a more serious underlying medical condition. Because the veins can be unsightly, making us conscious of their presence on our body, many people seek treatment to get rid of them.
How are vascular lesions treated?
At Lakeside Health & Wellness, we use the Elite iQ laser system that delivers the combination of wavelength, high fluence, and long pulses required to effectively treat veins up to 3 mm in diameter. The laser penetrates below the skin to destroy and collapse the veins. Vascular treatments are safe for patients with skin types I–IV.

What should I expect?
The laser feels like a snap of a rubber band. The application of ice for a few seconds or the use of a cooling device may help alleviate discomfort. Immediately following treatment, the area may appear flushed and warm. The redness should fade over the course of a few hours. If discoloration occurs, it usually resolves within 4-6 weeks. Patients should avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and tanning lotions for 1 week before treatment, during the course of laser treatment, and 1 week after the treatment. Avoid hot baths/whirlpools and strenuous activities for 1 week following treatment (vein treatment). Results vary with each individual. Follow-up vascular treatments should be scheduled at every 4 to 6 weeks for facial veins and at least every 6 to 8 weeks for leg veins.
