She knows the ins and outs of the practice and is always there to help patients and staff when needed. She has three adorable kids and loves doing arts and crafts with them. She is a mom who can do it all! She also enjoys watching movies and shopping and is into all things beauty. Her favorite time of the year is fall when she and her family go pick the perfect pumpkin at the patch.

Joanna Nguyen, MD
Dr. Nguyen is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She received her medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean and completed her three-year residency training locally in Sacramento. She went on to work for Mercy Medical Group before deciding to start her own practice in Folsom in 2008.
Dr. Nguyen believes the first step in providing good care is to make patients feel at ease and to spend time with her patients to listen to their concerns before a personalized treatment plan is determined. She finds it rewarding to partner with her patients to work towards the mutual goal of good health.
Dr. Nguyen's other strong interest is in aesthetics. She has advanced training and is certified in microneedling, laser therapy, and neuromodulator injection.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family (including her sweet baby dog, Ellie), catching up with friends, and trying different restaurants.

Maria is our board-certified Physician Assistant. She obtained her PA degree from Touro University California in Vallejo, CA and was the valedictorian of her class! In addition to obtaining her PA degree, she also holds the degree of Master of Public Health.
Her philosophy of care revolves around providing high quality patient-centered care through respect, communication, and compassion. What is “microneedling”?
Collagen induction therapy has been well-researched and well-documented as a safe and effective treatment in anti-aging, skin resurfacing, and acne scarring. Microneedling uses collagen induction therapy as the primary mechanism of action by creating numerous small microchannels through the skin, which stimulates the body to produce new collagen and remodel the treatment area. Because microneedling mechanically creates microchannels and avoiding the use of heat, thermal energy, or chemicals, it virtually eliminates post treatment sensitivity and down-time. Additionally, these microchannels allow large molecules in topical skin products that normally cannot penetrate the skin to pass through the microchannels and help achieve better efficacy of these products. Paired with one's own PRF (platelet rich fibrin), this treatment combination can deliver spectacular results using natural products.

What vascular lesions or conditions do we treat?
Spider veins ♦ Rosacea ♦ Cherry angiomas.
Telangiectasias are small dilated blood vessels seen near the surface of the skin. The condition is one of the most common vascular lesions seen by physicians, even among healthy people, with a reported incidence of 30% in the general population. Leg vein pathology (which is often referred to as spider veins) affects up to 80 million adults in the United States alone. Women tend to develop leg vein pathology 3 to 4 times as often as men, with reported estimates ranging from 29-41% in women and 6-15% in men. Facial veins are also common and are often associated with a common skin disorder called rosacea. Rosacea consists of visible blood vessels, redness, and acne-like lesions on the face. Cherry angiomas are another commonly seen condition and are a collection of blood vessels. They appear as little red bumps and are often found on the torso but can develop anywhere on the body.
Telangiectasia is generally progressive, and these veins can become larger and increase in number over time. Treatment of early stage disease may prevent the progression and cause regression of the underlying disease process. Although the condition is usually harmless, it can be associated with a more serious underlying medical condition. Because the veins can be unsightly, making us conscious of their presence on our body, many people seek treatment to get rid of them.

Erica has many interests and hobbies. She enjoys traveling, arts and crafts, fishing, and baking. She makes the best broccoli casserole! She loves spending time with her family and loves her animals (her bird Cowboy, dog JJ, and 32 fish).
